Frequently Asked Questions

Biggest problems with most digital accessibility trainings?

The biggest problems & gaps in technical digital accessibility trainings and certifications include:

  1. Knowledge-Based Curriculum & Approach

Text-based and pre-recorded trainings focusing on laws, best practices, and accessibility concepts are insufficient at upskilling talent responsible for technical digital accessibility job functions.
Technical upskilling is most effective and realized through hands-on workshops, guided practice, live instruction, coaching, and feedback.

  2. No Technical Skill Assessment Required to Earn Certification

Technical digital accessibility expertise cannot be measured through the SAT, ACT, or any other multiple choice tests based on a body of knowledge. These tests measure one’s ability to memorize information, not validate demonstratable technical skills in a real world setting. Validation and certification of technical digital accessibility skill can only be done by functionally demonstrating those technical skills in a proctored environment.

  3. Lacks Instructor Feedback, support and coaching.

Digital accessibility is complex and ambiguous. If you are not a trained digital accessibility expert, how will you know if you are testing, reporting, and remediating digital accessibility compliance correctly? Consistent feedback, support, and coaching from a certified instructor able to answer your questions in real time is the only proven method for upskilling individuals and teams from novices to experts in technical digital accessibility.

Why this certification program versus another?

This is the only skills-based certification that is fully remote, provides 2 industry certifications, and guarantees part-time work for successful graduates where program fees cost less than a semester at a 4-year state university.

What happens if a student drops out of the program before finishing?

Authorization payments can be split into two parts to minimize financial risk if a student drops out before completing the program. If a student drops out before the half-way point, agencies would not be responsible for the fees for the second half of the program.

What happens if a student fails the final exam?

Students are provided a second attempt to take the final exam at no additional charge. If a student fails the second final exam attempt, they may be able to take a third attempt for a fee and they meet certain conditions, or they will be required to re-take the CAT Program in the Self-Paced or Comprehensive track.

Students who fail the final exam twice may be conditionally offered to take a third attempt if they meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Are extremely close to passing,
  2. They have responded to feedback well and significantly improved, and
  3. We are confident they will easily pass the final exam on their third attempt.
How do I know if a client might be a good fit?

First, review the training and proficiency prerequisites for students enrolling in the CAT Program. They must pass the prerequisite skills assessment before they can enroll. Additionally, individuals who show the following characteristics are most likely to succeed in the CAT Program. Motivated and likes a challenge. Technically inclined with strong technical skills and interested in accessibility. Is a critical thinker and problem solver who can work independently. Is a self-starter with great attention to detail. Is able to take constructive feedback well. Likes a challenge and does not get discouraged by difficult tasks. Can manage ambiguity and change.

When does the next class start?

Classes start throughout the year, but as often as every month. Each time there are enough students to meet the class minimum of four students, the next training program is kicked off.

What is the job market really like?

It is growing and lucrative. Entry level digital accessibility roles start at $25 an hour. New digital accessibility laws and lawsuits are driving the change domestically and internationally. There are fully remote, hybrid, and in-person job opportunities. Over 78% year over year increase in jobs in digital accessibility in 2021. LinkedIn had over 3,100 and ZipRecruiter had over 44,000 jobs referencing web accessibility in 2022. 75% of employers see significant increases in demand for employees with accessibility skills. 2% say it’s easy for their organization to find candidates with accessibility skills. The digital Accessibility Software Market is over $500 billion today.

How will I know how well my client is doing?

Counselors receive three status updates. The first update is at 4 weeks, informing counselors of the onboarding, kickoff, and student progress handling the workload. At 12 weeks, an update is provided on the student’s ability to understand curriculum, develop job skills, professionalism, and other key important indicators of success in passing the final exams. Upon completion of Phase 1, you receive an update on the student’s success across the program, whether they graduated or not, and next steps-either additional program services to support passing the final exam or the successful graduate begins working part-time with AccessAbility Officer.
